Every day, perfectly good food goes to waste—while families in our community go without. Our Food Recovery Hub is changing that.![]()

What is Food Recovery?
Food recovery is the practice of safely collecting surplus, wholesome food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributing it to people in need. This includes fresh produce, dairy, bread, prepared foods, and shelf-stable items from grocery stores, local farmers, and community partners. Food recovery reduces food waste, supports food security, and strengthens the health of our community.
What We Do at South County Community Services (SCCS)
South County Community Services (SCCS) operates the largest food recovery effort in Santa Clara County. Each day, we collect and distribute significant quantities of nutritious food to low-income families, seniors, and individuals experiencing housing instability. We partner with local grocery stores, farmers, and community donors to recover food that is still safe and healthy to eat.
Our trained staff and volunteers follow strict food safety and tracking procedures to ensure responsible handling and distribution. Through this work, SCCS helps reduce food waste while increasing reliable access to healthy food for our community.
